Recently Yahoo announced that their index now contained over 20 billion “web objects”, specifically 19.2 billion web documents, 1.6 billion images, and over 50 million audio and video files.

At first this number was blithely accepted, but within hours, the impact began to sink in… 20 billion is a lot, and far outstrips Google’s current claim of 8,168,684,336 web pages. Google pushed past the 8

Advanced Micro Devices hopes that game enthusiasts will soon be snatching up laptops built on two new mobile processors that the chipmaker introduced Monday.

AMDturion64_210x136The Turion MT-40 and MT-37 chips are available to PC makers for $359 and $268, respectively, in bulk amounts. Longtime AMD supporter VoodooPC has already pledged to use the two chips in a pair of laptops outfitted specially for people who take their video games seriously. Other notebook manufacturers that favor AMD, such as Acer, are expected to follow suit.

AMD now has 12 64-bit Turion processors available for thinner and lighter notebooks, including three ML-series and seven MT-series chips. AMD designed the Turion series to use less battery power than its Athlon Mobile series, which the chipmaker reserves for desktop replacement models.

Remixed versions of Windows abound on file-sharing networks, supercharged with the latest security patches, tools and applications.
Pirated copies of Microsoft’s operating system have existed as long as chintzy PC owners themselves. But now pirates are doing more than just cracking Windows — they claim to be improving it.
There’s a lot of extra space on a standard Windows XP CD, especially if the downloadable disc images (the standard format for distributing pirated operating systems) are designed to be burned to DVD. That leaves room to add a whole library of complementary software — even multiple versions of Windows.

NEW YORK (AP) — A computer problem at an unidentified stock trader caused erroneous, exaggerated prices — some as high as $950 per share — to be posted to the Nasdaq Stock Market Friday morning for 1,680 different stocks, a spokeswoman for the Nasdaq said.
The Nasdaq said trades using possibly incorrect occurred in 184 stocks between 9:19 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., when the problem occurred. Those transactions, which were made 15 percent above or below the previous day’s closing price, will be “broken” — the buyer will get his or her money back, and the stock will revert to the seller.
